Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for 22 years. We have 3 children -- Sarah, a senior at SRCS who excels at playing flute and will be attending college for Music Therapy; Emmy, who is a freshman at SRCS and likes to play basketball; and Ian, who is 9 years old. We adopted him from China in 2012, and he loves to do jigsaw puzzles and build things out of Legos.
Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher after being a stay-at-home mom for ten years, SRCS was in need of a few specials teachers, and because of God's blessings on me of several talents, I answered His call. I originally began teaching in 2008 for grammar school Art, Music, and Technology. Over the years my position has changed, and I am now teaching Technology, including Microsoft Office, Computer Programming, and Robotics.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I love teaching. I love the relationships I am building with my students and coworkers. I have enjoyed teaching students in the lower grammar school grades over the years and continuing to teach them up into high school, cultivating a long-time relationship with them. Now that I teach middle school and high school, I especially enjoy those "aha moments" when a student learns something new and shares their excitement out loud! That kind of excitement is really prominent when I'm coaching the Robotics Team and we all work together to build and program a robot for competition.
