What were you like as a child?
As a child, I loved the outdoors and all animals. I was happiest when I was on my horse just exploring all day.
What is a favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be the times when my family and I went camping.
What is your favorite course to teach, and why?
My favorite course to teach is Bible. I love the way my kids soak up everything I say. They trust the gospel with unabashed glory, and they are never ashamed to love Jesus.
What do enjoy most about your job?
I love my job mainly because because I love Christ and children, and to be able to mix the two together is a dream come true.
What is a fond SRCS memory?
I have experienced many memorable events over the past 15 years at SRCS, but I think the one that had the most impact on me was a few years ago. I was out on the playground enjoying recess and some lovely fall weather. I was chatting with Mrs. Couric when I started feeling a bit dizzy and thought I needed a cup of coffee. On my way to the office, my feet quit doing what they were told, and I got very confused. Nurse Sue took one look at me and called 911. I was having a 'mini stroke'. Coach Bowman was sent to find an aspirin, and I know I saw tears in his eyes (not hard to picture if you know Bow). Mr. James was calling my husband as I got into the ambulance and was whisked off to the hospital. All that week I was the recipient of so much love. Co-workers and staff called and came to visit me. Parents and students brought me cards and flowers. I even had visits from parents of kids I hadn't taught in years. I was humbled by the love and attention of my Seven Rivers family. I was reminded that being a teacher here is so much more than just a job.
What is a favorite quote of yours?
A quote I love to teach my students is "Before you speak, think, be smart. It's hard to mend a broken heart." I stress kindness in my class. I figure life is tough enough, and we all need a safe place.
