Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my best friend since 1978, and we have three children and three grandchildren.  We took our teenagers to Kenya on a family mission trip, and they all caught the travel bug.  Our older daughter spent six years teaching English in Thailand and now is living in Kentucky.  Our son, a Navy officer with a language certification in Arabic, has been working in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.  Our younger daughter is married and lives in South Korea.

Tell us about a memorable adventure you have experienced.
We have made treks to Thailand, South Korea, Kenya, Zambia, Israel, and Greece.  Our favorite place to go was Kenya and safari on the Masai Mara.  My most frightening adventure was riding on a night safari and seeing a leopard circle our jeep.

Why did you become a teacher?
I remember teaching my Sunday school class when I was nine and the teacher was habitually late.  I would make up Bible crosswords and games.  When I was student teaching in Texas, I worked in very poor schools, and I knew that this service was my calling.  I am passionate about helping children learn to read well, and watching them make the leap to independent learning thrills me time and time again.

What is a favorite book of yours?
My favorite book to read each year at Easter is The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.  Each time I revel in a magical place where good and evil are starkly delineated.  The symbolism of the cross, resurrection, and victory over evil inspires me to keep "telling the story."

What do you love about SRCS?
I love being part of SRCS and feel a kindred spirit to many of the staff and families.  I desire to be on mission for God in Florida, and our school is a primary opportunity to serve and help others on their journey of faith.  I love to hear wisdom and perspective on life from the students.  It is truly my happy place!
