Tell us about your family.
I have two beautiful girls, Maci and Mia, who attend SRCS. We have three dogs and a rabbit! My parents live in Arkansas, and we see them once or twice a year. The rest of my family lives on the east coast of Florida.

What were you like as a child?
It was just my dad and me until he remarried when I was 8. I played soccer and spent a lot of time around my cousins. I would be in the water whenever I could, whether it was the beach or my grandparents' pool.

Why did you become a nurse?
I wanted to take care of people and loved the idea of making them feel better.  Now I teach nursing students and guide them through the beginning of their careers.

What are your interests outside of work?
I spend most of my time juggling extracurricular activities with my girls. I coach Maci's soccer team three days a week, and Mia has dance twice a week. When I am able, I like to be on the water, either by boat or paddle board.

What do you love about SRCS?
Everything! The staff has been amazing from the moment Maci started in VPK. Now that I am a part of the staff, they feel like family. My family isn't near, so I appreciate the friendships I have made. I enjoy seeing the kids and their smiling faces. No matter how exhausted I am from coming to work straight from an overnight shift in the ER, it makes it all worthwhile when they walk by and wave and yell, "Hi, Ms. Melissa!"

What is a fond SRCS memory?
Giving an injured student a piggyback ride to his vehicle because he was too heavy for his mom to carry! Also, getting to sign the cast of the student's arm I splinted after he fell on the playground and broke it.

Tell us about a memorable adventure you have experienced.
Every trip I take with my girls is memorable, but I'll say sky-diving was a pretty memorable adventure!
